OK, let's get this out of the way right off the bat. This is NOT the "best picture I've ever taken with a digital camera." Picking THAT is impossible, so I didn't even try. I have many images I am proud of; I don't have a single one that I would call the "best." What is best will vary from day to day and hour to hour depending on my mood, and for what purpose I am looking at pictures. My best today may seem ordinary tomorrow, and vice versa.

So I guess this photo is clearly DNMC. Its a shot I like, though, and its been in my portfolio for a while. And it was taken during my first DPC get together, at Point Reyes in July 2007. Seems apropos. I hope it does well.

Thanks Langdon and Drew for creating this site and keeping it alive. It has inspired me to go out and shoot many times when I didn't feel like it. The images I have created at those times, and the better images I have created as a result on my travels and at other times when I *wanted* to shoot, are priceless.

I like your choice of photo for the challenge, too. It is technically well taken with an impressively deep depth of field; I particular like the way the texture and colour of the wood and peeling paintwork is shown.

I like your choice. This photo has an interesting subject that makes me stop and look for a while. And the colors, textures, clarity, and composition are all very nice. Great DOF to have the background so clearly defined as well as the texture of the beach in the foreground.

Your description of the photo is clear - and it was a terrific choice for all the right reasons! I love that you chose to show this in the transporation gallery.

OK, lets see. Its a technically sound image - good strong light, good composition and if we had the time to ponder over each image one could ask oneself how the boat ended up where it is, we know its probably a mundane story but one can be allowed to imagine it was beached after her crew fought in a storm at sea. Sadly there is no real WOW factor to this image and it doesnt really provoke any emotions in me, which in my view are two of the biggest points I look for in any photo.

I'd imagine you are sitting on quite an average score at the moment, 5.4 to 5.6.

New vote - still a 5. good luck!

What can I say other than very sharp. Nice texture in the sand and on the boat. Works well against the smooth sky and clouds. The neutral brown in the forground is a great contrast to the top of your photograph. Bump-up!

Left! I said Left! Very nice shot - the disrepair of the boat, combined with its location and the very nice water / sand / far hills / nice sky makes this a great shot.

Very nice, looks like that boat has been there a long time. Could it be sharpened a bit too much?

Old fishing boats always have lots of character...you took a different approach composing this inland, instead of the usual with the ocean as the backdrop.

pretty scene. the longer i look at it the more i feel as if i am standing there right on the beach. i smell salt water and think salty air and feel the wet rocky sand beneath my feet. photos dont often do that to me.
