I was always in 2 minds weather to post this shot or the one with the baby goat (The Summit) decided on the one with the baby for the AWWWWWW-factor but now for this challenge I think our friend can stand here on his own and be counted. Maybe not the best shot I have ever taken but certainly one I really REALLY LOVE!

I'm guessing a few of you will know it's mine and I hope you love it as much as you did the other shot too.

This is the MONSTER of all challenges and I think to get in the top 50 on this one will be an honour

I thought that goat looked familiar. Now you will have two shots of the same scene in the Top Ten list for that lens. //www.dpchallenge.com/lens.php?LENS_ID=1419
Very nice shots. The light was great on him and your BW conversion excellent.

I'm so happy you had another photo of this amazing scene for this challenge. It is one of my favorite photos of all time. When I was in Colorado last weekend, I photographed a big horn sheep standing on a rockon a hillside and I thought of your photo -- of course, it sure made mine fall short! It is "the bar" by which any other sheep photo will forever be measured :) Great score and finish in this challenge. Wish it could have won another ribbon for you!

Yes this was with the Fujifilm S5 Pro and the Nikon 70-300VR but they have long since gone.

Wasnt that shot with your Fuji camera? I love the tonal range you have in these shots and the angle really makes it look like it was captured in the wilds.

It wasn`t far off your estimated score either.

Great work.

Probabaly some reference (background or something) could have helped to indicate that this is indeed the highest point at which the animal is standing

This is interesting ... the scale of the rock and the mountain goat seem gigantic compared to the scale of the dirt and weeds. Makes it seem that the goat is about 30 meters high. Contrast, light levels, comp ... all good. And it pleases me. Well done.

Voted earlier coming back to leave comments now. He stands high above, lord of all he surveys. The composition that captures this mountain goat standing high above a rocky mountainside with the clouds filling up the background invokes the idea in my mind of a king looking down upon all his land and loyal subjects. Black and White tones are great, especially on the coat of the mountain goat. Good eye to spot this opportunity and compose the shot such that the sky domminates the background for this greatly boosts the idea that he stands high above us. Plus it puts the spotlight directly on him. Great capture!

Methinks someone needs a good grooming. What's with the tip of his horns? Looks like antennae or something with a very blunt end. Actually kind of looks like the lower part is duct-taped ;-)

He stood there, above all else, at the end of a long and eventful journey. Not a journey of miles or physical paths, but one of life and years. He surveyed all about him and knew it to be good and strong.

As the wind caught his tattered coat, he remembered all that had passed in his grand and glorious time, and while he knew that soon it would end, for now he could stand here, king of this land, and rejoice.

He was proud, and strong still, and his experience and majesty would continue far beyond himself, and he was glad.

It took every ounce of his remaining strength, but he was on top once more. Oh, he realised that it was only metaphorically, that he had ceded his dominance to a younger, more vigourous ram long ago, but standing here now, surveying the crags and valleys where he'd watched over his harem for so many years he felt a surge of pride and satisfaction. It had been a hard life and he had the scars to prove it but he'd risen to the challenge. He was ready to go now; he'd gained the peak one last time and could now take the rest he'd earned.
