I'm having trouble here... Nice color and great job with the light.
The blobs are abstract but this is still a picture of lava lamps. To me, abstract, by definition, means you can't really know what the subject is.
So.... like I said... I'm having trouble here |

I've been using the definition: "Of, relating to, or being a style of art in which natural objects are not represented realistically." With this in mind, it really doesn't fit abstract, IMO. |

How many people in this challenge have yellow lava lamps? |

I don't care for the crop very much, the first two lamps are a bit distracting. My eyes keep shifting to the far lamp and its reflection. |

I think this shot would benefit from a really nice close up on just one of the lamps. |

I get your oobie take ... abstract motion inside the lava lamp. Still DNMC (cuz you didn't use the camera to create the motion), but I'm willing to overlook that. What I can't overlook is the overall green-yellow cast to the image (which could be corrected with a simple white balance adjustment), the dust or spots and soft focus on the leftmost lamp, and the trapped negative space between the three lamps. A tighter focus on a single lamp and some external lighting, or a different setup of the three lamps would have really helped here. |

I suppose the entropic value of the 'lava' in these lamps has an abstract element, but a simple recording of this isn't abstract in and of itself. The motion, as well, is not visible here, but only implied, and only if one knows that these things actually moved and aren't statically encased in some kind of plastic or glass. For my money, this simply doesn't adhere to the challenge theme. |

not voting on this one as I'm not sure I am understanding the shot, doesn't appear to be any motion... but maybe I'm missing something? I have a g&t next to me, so it's entirely possible :-) |

Abstract is: art in which the subject is represented by shapes and patterns rather than by a realistic likeness
For me this is more 'stopped motion' than abstract motion. Maybe a big overall blur would have done the trick. |

There is motion in the lava but you really can't class it as abstract. |

I like the photo, but not sure it captures a sense of motion. |
