A recent comment on one of my images suggested that what I do isn't really photography because I use a telescope. A telescope of course is nothing more than a lens that's configured for viewing through with an eyepiece... to prove this point I decided that this month I would photograph the winter gem Orion's sword using nothing more than my 70-200mm f/4 canon L lens along with a tracking device (losmandy g11 mount). Anyone who has a tracking device, a mount or a homemade "barndoor tracker" can take astrophotos, I know it's hard to believe, but astrophotography is just the art of long exposure photography of a moving object, no more, no less. Of course, perfecting it is a labor of love, but getting started is not all that difficult.

Well, it looks like I was the only one that gave you a 10. But I'll never regret it. Keep up the good work!

I was very intrigued by the title and was dying to know how you did this. It's an artform unto itself. I voted 8. I think this deserved a better finish.

Very nice, budget or not! Still something you just don't see everyday, perhaps a tighter crop would help? . 7

A great attempt at astropotography. Excellant exposure for a simple telephoto lens. Well done.
