Location: Home - Singapore

Aperture: F10

Galleries: Abstract, Digital Art
Date Uploaded: Mar 23, 2009

Editing steps below (honestly I did not quite know what I was doing LOL!!) :
1. Smoke trails/patterns were captured with 1 flash (with green gel) from the left.
2. Increased amount of black when processing raw file
3. Increased contrast using levels
4. In Selective Color
- reduced black in green and blue channel
5. Increased blue saturation using Hue/Saturation
6. Selected Auto Color
7. Increased saturation further and deepened blacks further using Selective
Color.
8. Fintuned the different colors using Selective Color
9. Added the very thin white border

I wish I did not have to enter this one, but for my DPCO IV team mates I could not let them down. So if this exceeds 5.5 I will be extremely happy.

Smoke shots are the greatest. Ha! I see Don Quixote in profile facing right. The different colors in the smoke are really impressive. In fact, I think it's the different colors that are creating the face for me. Excellent shot.

I personally like these smoke photos, they're like looking into the clouds for me. I totally see a profile of a persons face here! Very thought provoking, thanks for entering!

The color is what makes it an abstract

I'm torn on this one. It's very interesting, and very well done. But unless I'm completely off, it is smoke trails. I've been using the definition: "Of, relating to, or being a style of art in which natural objects are not represented realistically." and other than the colors, it still looks like smoke trails. Since I can't rate it high if I think it DNMC, and since I won't mark it low in case I'm wrong, I'm going to pass on voting. It is very nice!

Another image not particularly perfect, but meeting the challenge head on effectively. I think it would have been perfect if one had concentrated on less smoke and light.

My problem with this shot is that while I know by experience that smoke has motion, this fact isn't conveyed well here. It also is, well, smoke, which isn't incredibly abstract in and of itself. Still, the abstract does exist in the inherent unknown of the geometry of pattern, and it's always interest to try and 'see' something in it, so to speak.

In the end, however, I just feel it falls too far into the realm of 'just another smoke photo'.

Scored this well and it does look abstract but I don't know if it technically meets the challenge. There again, I probably just don't know much!

Nice abstract motion, but I would have blurred it a bit more I think.
