I like trying new techniques for challenges and this seemed like a good idea to try the extreme macro approach I had seen in a tutorial on the site.

I used my Tamron telephoto and then selotaped an old Minolata lense to the front having initally tried and failed with an old broken Nikon 35-80mm I have. It took a lot of experimenting and trial and error to get it right.

The miniscule DOF is the biggest hurdle and anything not a a vertical plane of about 1mm will drop out of focus. The appature of the front lense has to be jammed open at maximum to get an image of any size so there is very little that an be done about it.

I love the image I have chosen and after input from some members that helped me to decide (thanks Karen, Wendy and especially Trish). I love the colours, the composition the light, the OOF element and of course the texture.

As for score well I have no idea. It could end up at 4.5 or a new PB over 6.00. Who knows and I sure have given up trying to pre-guess the outcome of my pics so I'm gonna sit back and enjoy the ride.

I'll have to take your word for the 'Wings'. It may have been on purpose but I think it looks a tad bit soft. As is: 9

The white is just a tad overdone and the image has an appearance of being oversharpened. A good demonstration of texture and it's use as a subject for this challenge. A good solid effort.

this is cool, pretty abstract. i really like how it fades from black to amber to peachy

The bright spot on the top right takes away from the beautiful glow, contrast, colors and texture on the bottom left.

This is so gorgeous, the light passing through is quite sublime, and the wings look like bubbles of thin toffee. Quite extraordinary.

Great color balance and control of that white.
