No matter how well I disguise them, Penny always finds the pillows. The old gal knows enough to just ignore the weirdo with the camera.

I'm quite the fan of cats and zoneplates. Somehow it captures an essence without stealing it from them. And yes, cats will always find the pillows - all the better to shed hair on them you can breathe in and get all over your face when you try to sleep on them. The pillows, not the cats. You know what I mean.

If you add shadows to a smooth object is it still a smooth object? At what point/scale does a smooth object with shading acquire "texture" and does it change with blurred vision?
This photo is asking for the viewer's definition of "texture" and shouldn't be dismissed so easily. Great job.

Well, that's an amazing score. Shocking really. So much for a few more recruits to our little cult from that challenge.

Nice shot, and it's these non-traditional approaches that have really invigorated me over the last 6 months. Whether it's lensbaby, Holga, pinhole, zp or whatever. Keep up the good work!

You really did nail the texture in the white areas -- very beautiful.

Sorry about the comments you got. That's one of the reasons I've pretty much dropped out of the challenges.

Holy cow! I didn't expect this to score this low. I know I was the first to comment and not give it a raving review, but 3.3 is pushing it. Had I voted, I would have been lenient on the "lack of focus", because to me it was obvious that focus wasn't your intent, especially since you didn't even have a lens on, heh. I've kept my eye on many of the side challenges, so I've better learned to spot this style. It's clear there's still lots of users that are as clueless as I was just a year ago.

I still think the photo could have used some structural improvement, but I am disappointed to see you taking the brown. Keep doing what you do!

=)

...I wish I had voted. I really do. It looks so comfy...soft...cozy. And the light, so warm and inviting. This picture is pure essence.

...and the unfortunate comments remind me why I haven't been hanging around DPC all that much lately.

...ugh.

strong sense of texture. I gave you a 6.

I envy your brownness.

Just too soft for my taste.

The softness actually adds to this IMNSHO. 6

Maybe I am missing something, but hte object on the white cloth must be the subject of your photo. It is very blurry and the background appears to be the only part in focus.

I found this too abstract for this challenge.

Sorry, this is just too blurry for me. It feels blurry not pillowy

With a photo so blurry my eyes have nothing to focus on. You should have something in focus so that the viewers eye has a place to rest in the photo. I'm not opposed to intentional blur it doesn't seem to work for this photo imo nor for this challenge.

The author's intent is plain from the title, unfortunately, the uber soft focus doens't meet the title's expectations. The image, while soft, isn't delicate as the title could imply - it requires more detail in particular with the object in the back ground which assumedly is a cat.

too blurred

Way too much soft focus--a tight close up of the dogs fur and the bed covering would have been a better choice.

To my eye...the Orton Effect was used too intensely in this photograph

Put your lens back on! =)

After staring at the photo, I think I'm looking at a cat? Sorry, but I don't think this photo holds its own without a real focal point or a strong structural presence of some sort.

You did get your Pillowy texture feeling across, though.
