The side light to create effect is a good attempt, it fails to provoke any sense of being unusual and is somewhat distracting from the subjects face. It might have been a better approach to back light the head to create a halo effect and provide some drama to the image.

Hmmm usually when we capture a portrait the lighting should be in the back not on the side...except if u have idea to make one side bright one side dark...but that is something that u capture in the dark with weak light source so to have that kind of effect
