Another cliche'd shot, but one I've wanted to try for awhile. Treated glass with Rain-X to get good water drop shapes. The title is actually my son's first response to the photo.

Several mentioned wanting details on how this was done. I've seen the technique many times before, and I did mine in much the same way. I set up near a window to get natural lighting. Placed a white foamboard on the floor, then used 4 long stemmed glasses to hold the glass about 8 inches above it. I cleaned the glass well and treated with Rain-X so that the water would bead up in nice round beads. Arranged the crayons under the glass and placed water drops on the glass with an eye-dropper so I could control the size. I found that the drops had to be similar in size to get reasonable focus of the refracted image in most of them. The small drops are not well focused as a result, but I wanted the contrast in drop sizes. I placed white foamboards vertically along two sides to reflect some light back onto the glass for even lighting. I then stood directly above the glass, focused on the beads, and shot the image.

I loves cliché'd shot and I love this one especially. Stunning colors and very dynamic looking. Congrats on 6th, Daniel.

That is SO awesome! I always think these shots are so underrated by the voters. To me, they take such skill and when done right turn out so magical -- I think this oughta be in the 7's easy. But congratulations on a fabulous score and front page honors.

Nice, and worthy of a good vote, though this effect is beginning to get a little cliche. It'll probably start getting slammed with low votes whenever I do one.

A very creative look at crayons - the image meets the subject matter dead on with subtle, yet detailed effect. A terrific demonstration of the creative process in meeting the challenge in a very unusual way. Should be a sure bet to win a ribbon or place high as a top twenty image. A couple of minor detail problems not worth mentioning because they don't appear until you really get a critical eye and examine the image closely. Well done.
