Challenge: Crayons & Colored Pencils (Advanced Editing VII) Camera: Canon EOS-40D Lens: Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM Location: Williamstown, MA Date: Apr 12, 2009 Aperture: f/2.8 ISO: 100 Shutter: 1/500 Galleries: Abstract Date Uploaded: Apr 12, 2009
|
Processing: ACR - WB 3200 (temp of lights used), tint -6, exp. +75, recovery/fill 0, blacks 5, brightness 50, contrast 25, clarity 15, vibrance 13, sat 16, all other tabs at default, open as RAW in CS4
CS4 - crop, rotate 90 degrees clockwise, curves - black point set on black crayon, levels 8/1/230, merge layers, crop, resize, sfw
I tried a few different saves after sharpening using a few different methods, all looked funny to me somehow...not real or over processed. I shot a few times...I wanted the back half of the crayons more out of focus than they are. Just never seemed to get the right distance/focus combination.
Set-up: one 24 count box crayola crayons, one drill and smallest drill bit in set, drilled each crayon through the 'O' in Crayon, slide onto wooden skewer, clamp skewer in vice grips and place on table with background, spin crayons to position, light and shoot. |

Really nice work Chris. Gotta love that you were able to incorporate power tools and crayons in the same challenge. Extra marks for that! |

A very creative look at crayons - the image meets the subject matter and with flair and style. A terrific demonstration of the creative process in meeting the challenge. Should be a sure bet to win a ribbon or place high as a top twenty image. A couple of minor detail problems not worth mentioning because they don't appear until you really get a critical eye and examine the image closely. Well done. |
