Challenge: Free Study 2009-04 (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3
Location: Leerdam, The Netherlands
Date: Apr 12, 2009
Aperture: 4.0
ISO: 80
Shutter: 1/500
Galleries: Animals, Rural
Date Uploaded: Apr 22, 2009

These beautiful white cows came towards us when we parked our car next to the field in which they were grazing. They came close, but were wary of getting within touching distance. I think they were intrigued by the small black camera in my hands though.

Rotate, gamma curves, local contrast, saturation, crop, dodge, sharpen, resize.

There seem to be few submissions so far with the Panasonic LX-3, so I hope this one does ok (I would like a 5.6+). My Nikon D80 is a better photographic tool than the LX3, but the LX3 is so nice an portable! Really a take-it-anywhere. And much fun to use!

Thanks for all the great compliments! It was exciting to watch the score go up and down as the week went by. Almost got to a 7, before dropping at the end. :-) (And at least I got the "blue ribbon" for this model of camera.) Yay!

Wow... amazing shot... I love the fact that the cows seem to be leaning in to the frame like a group of people might.
This is a great advert for the LX3 also to show what can be achieved...

I adore cow shots, this is one of the best I've seen, lovely light and they behaved themselves beautifully for you. Its quite a feeling being down that low to those big beasts, isn't it!

Love this image. I really like the character and stance of the cow on the left (of screen). That is what makes this image for me. He/She looks as if he/she are ready to bolt on outta there. Nice composition, great color, terrific light. A favorite of mine in this free study challenge.

Love cows. These are adorable cows. I really like the angle you chose to approach these particular cows. And how did you get such nicely focused cows at these differing distances with what looks to be almost a wide angle?

Great positions - do you do Bovine Choreography classes at night school ?

I love this shot! It's great how all the cows are checking you out. The wide angle emphasizes that they're all leaning into the center to see. Lighting is nice too. Great, quirky shot! 9

Funny and captured with a terrific sense of whimsy - cows are indeed curious creatures and it is well captured in this image. Very different and unigue - a solid image that is crisp, sharp and properly framed and composed - a technical success in every way. From an artistic standpoint, it has significant impact being richly colored with excellant detail. This image would have worked as a black and white as well. A perfect demonstration of the power of properly controlled light and focus. Well done.

This image just makes me laugh, I love it. The composition is perfect for the point of view. Great focus. Great capture as each cow seems to have it's own "expression."
