Challenge: Animals In Motion (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Nikon D300
Lens: Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED
Location: Melbourne Zoo, Australia
Date: Apr 26, 2009
Aperture: F8
ISO: 1600
Shutter: 1/60 plus Flash
Galleries: Animals, Action
Date Uploaded: Apr 26, 2009

The image: Shot in a really dark place...used SB800 to light up this little fellow, not a great shot, but the zoo was closing and I was the only one there. I defied the sign that said NO FLASH.

The Edit: B and W, some tint, some d and b, usm, noise reduction layer mask, some selective sharpening. It's a little dark, but that's the environment

The Prediction: I think this might do poorly on one hand as it is dark, and it might do well as these are rare elusive marsupials only found in Australia...I am going to hope to get at least 6, but a 5.5 won't surprise me.

I once held a baby platypus - remarkably soft. Anyway, platypuses are not marsupials but egg-laying mammals classed as monotremes.

Well, you sure do know your voters, don't you! This time, I wish you had been wrong :( I like it! I've never seen an animal like that. I don't think even our Sea World has one of those fellows.

unique shot, well done! 7 Back to bump up to 8, on review I feel this shot deserves better because of the difficulty involved. Great job on getting the focus right.

This is really nice, good decision to go with the b&w.

A good action shot rich in detail with plenty to look at. A good exposure that just seems a little flat which may be the result of the lighting, but more likely the result of the dark and gray. A worthy entry into the challenge with good detail and action component. Having said that, it just appears to be uninteresting in an artistic sense.

Possibly the only time I have ever seen a Platypus in a challenge ! Such incredible looking creatures.
