Well I took this one while being chaperoned by my brother. Hyde Park at night is apparently dangerous, but instead of hobos and IV drug users as reported, my brother was freaking out over the rats and possums - some chaperone!! :)

Well last time I went shooting at night with my brother I bagged my only ribbon (in the tiled horizon challenge), so hopefully I'll break a 6 here (fingers and toes crossed).

- 3 raw files (different exposures) used. Raw conversion on all 3 with WB adjustments
- 3 files copied onto 3 different layers masked appropriately.
- flattened
- 2 different B & W conversions with channel mixer, on 2 layers, masked.
- Curves
- Brightness/contrast
- Selective contrast adjustments
- Curves again

I was just scrolling through all your challenge entries to pick a couple out to comment on and stopped the second I saw this.

I've walked down this very path a number of times looking for interesting things to photograph (I live literally 5 minutes walk from here on George St) and I have never come up with anything nearly as striking as this!

The lights are obviously the first thing that catch my attention being the brightest area of the shot, but it's the trees that really make it. I'm guessing you knew that judging by your title but I really felt I had to state it again!

I particularly like that you have made what would usually be the main feature (the lights and path) as almost a footnote here!

Coming back to comment - I bet this is beautiful during the fall! While I think it would be a great photo during the day and in color, I like the night time look to this - the exposure on the trees is good and I like how the walkway is well lit, I just wish that the lanterns didn't glow so much.

Beautifully done. B/W adds to the drama. Good Luck. Mike
