Challenge: Table Shot III (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Canon EOS-40D
Lens: Sigma 24-135mm f/2.8-4.5 Aspherical IF for Canon
Location: Bumpass, VA
Date: Apr 28, 2009
Aperture: f/16.0
ISO: 320
Shutter: 1 sec.
Galleries: Still Life, Studio
Date Uploaded: Apr 28, 2009

Even though the camera reports 1 second, this photo was taken in the dark and the exposure was controlled by the flash, which was set to 1/32 power. I opened the shutter, dropped the dice, then allowed the Stop Shot (//www.cognisys-inc.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=32&osCsid=e4344e102dd641f0f622e843165ee5b0) to control the flash using the microphone. Then I released the shutter. The toughest part was to get the camera to sit on the table in vertical mode.

I really like this one a lot. I love how the real dice interact with the dice on the box.

An interesting double double with the live dice being expertly framed against the static dice in the background. A very clever concept that is pleasing and amusing - technically competant with no major issues. From an artistic sense, everything seems in place including the hand letting the dice go which is a very subtle but clever and inventive touch. One minor little issue is that the bottom of the image could be cropped to eliminate the table surface which would have concentrated the eye on the more interesting aspects of the image, but that's a personal choice - it's still very good as it is. Well done.

Another wonderful motion capture. Great timing, and the position of the dice is great. Might have tried to drop them a bit more to the right to balance against the ginat printed dice.

Clever excecution of a good idea. A better surface (reflective black?) would have helped to lessen the shadows and given the image that final wow factor perhaps.
