 Taken the 2nd day of the new moon. I didn't have many options as far as where I could shoot these from so I just used the driveway. With the long exposure you can see the dark part of the moon illuminated by reflected light from the Earth. This is referred to as Earthshine. Just below the moon is the group of stars referred to as the Pleiades or 'the Seven Sisters'. The major stars form a ladle of sorts. There are perhaps hundreds of stars in this cluster. At the bottom of the image in a dark band that is an electrical line, there is Mercury. Also visible below the moon and above the power lines is a contrail of a jet. Just another interesting item that adds some complimentary contrast to the power lines.

This is sweet Scott. You actually used the power lines to your advantage in this. You were fortunate to be able to get Mercury like that. Good contrast and levels control in this too. You even got a posthumous comment. How cool is that! : )

A good solid image that is properly framed and composed - a technical success. From an artistic standpoint, it is an intersting image but of less than universal appeal. A good entry into the challenge.
