My first (and currently only!) attempt at an overlay. I did this well over a year ago and I remember have lots of fun doing it, but then my free trial of photoshop ran out! Oops!

(Also a self-portrait...shh! I don't usually do many of these.)

This was lit by a single lamp point right at me, which made the shadow. Just out of the frame on the left side is the corner of the room, so the wall was bouncing back a lot of light, which softened the light on my face.

This is great. It's a lovely sp and the overlay has worked well. I'm intrigued by the shadow, (which I really like) coz the lighting on your face doesn't seem strong enough to cast it. Is it another layer?

This is great!! you need to get that photoshop now!!!...I like how you kept the opacity up on this one...thus making it more grungy...

Looks like it's time for a free trial of CS4 then :- )

Nice shot - it would be really interesting to see this reworked with some of the suggestions below.

Another thing you might want to try is erasing the overlay off the face and body or trying a lighter opacity of it. Just an idea. Good luck!

Almost like we are seeing you through a dirty spotted window. Is there other software besides Photoshop that will let you use layers?

Nice! IMHO the skin tone looks a bit too red though-I would adjust the color balance.
