Just a technical note to the folks who said they wish they could see "the other side" of the shuttle. This actually IS the side where you would normally see the orbiter. The framework you see that is blocking the shuttle is called the "Rotating Service Structure" (I believe), and it is like a giant door that swings open about a day before a scheduled launch. I had a chance to be part of a press team at a launch in May of 2000... some of the shots from that trip are at www.thefreeds.com/misc/shuttle if you're interested :) |

Sure. If by close you mean less than a mile away. macro in the galactic sense? |

I know that "close up" is relative but I don't really think you can argue this fits the challenge. As a picture it's OK - I'd have left the top of the white mast in shot. |

This is ANYTHING but macro, nice try but this doesn't meet the challenge at all... -1 |

Good shot, but not a macro. |
11/16/2002 12:28:00 PM |
sorry, but this is not a macro-a macro is a CLOSEUP. You are in no way close to your subject. |
11/15/2002 11:46:00 PM |
Sorry - nice photo but not a close up. -- would have been good for technology. |
11/15/2002 07:42:00 PM |
There ought to be an attempt to use macro for this challenge... |
11/15/2002 09:49:00 AM |
Close to the shuttle, yet, but not a macro shot. |

Illegially close or extra large lens? Still don't think this is macro, up close and personal, or any of the challenge. But sure is a mighty good picture. I like the picture. Wish I was voting on it alone - without anything to do with the challenge. Darn it, still going to give it a 6 cause I like it. PTL |

Nice picture, but subject is dead in the middle. More importantly though, this is not a macro. |
11/13/2002 07:54:00 PM |
This would be a good picture for the current challenge - Technology. Although, you most likely used your zoom feature, I don't see this as a macro or close up shot. Too bad you can't get a photo from the other side so you can see more of the shuttle. |
11/13/2002 07:35:00 AM |
Not really a macro photograph. |
11/12/2002 03:51:00 PM |
This isn't very close up. and I am sure you have heard it already. You couldn't think of anything else? 3 Sonifo |

'Close' may be relative, but this doesn't come close to close... Sorry... |
11/12/2002 03:00:00 PM |
I can`t see the shuttle, only a bit of fuel tank, but i guess this is as close as your allowed.Maybe this would be better for this weeks technology challenge. So i reckon you should cut through the wire fence and get a pic from the front. It`s a shame it didn`t lanuch this week as planned. Marbo |

It FEELS more like a tele shot than a macro, but... you were there, so I'll take your word for it |

Original ... I'll give you a 6 ... RLS |

good picture, but not really macro. |

11/11/2002 09:57:00 PM |
awww man you could have gotten a little closer LOL....great shot and zoom....i know the distance you shot that from and it came out great. |
11/11/2002 09:22:00 PM |
Excuse me, but with all due respect, this is NOT a macro shot. |
11/11/2002 07:55:00 PM |
It is close and it is facing up, so I guess it's a close up. I'll give you a 7 because I wish I was there. jacko |

relatively speaking, yes! |
11/11/2002 06:00:00 PM |
Nice picture, but it doesn't really fit the challenge. |
11/11/2002 05:49:00 PM |
isn't this challenge supposed to be macros? |
11/11/2002 05:26:00 PM |
I am surprised! I didn't think I would have an opportunity to say, I don't see how this relates to the challenge, but you did it!! This is a fine photo, really, but the point was to get close, really close, and not close in a galaxy kinda framework. Sorry, but this is a 3 for this challenge. Any other week, it would be at least a 5. Swash |

11/11/2002 04:09:00 PM |
How is this considered macro? |
11/11/2002 02:43:00 PM |
I just don't see how this can be viewed as a Macro shot. |
11/11/2002 02:36:00 PM |
While this is a good shot.....and I envy your telephoto.....the challenge is MACRO. |
11/11/2002 02:00:00 PM |
I'm not normally too picky about meeting the challenge, but this isn't really "close", is it...? It's an OK picture of the shuttle, but not exceptional (although I'll be honest, if *I* got to go and see a launch I'd be tempted to try and make the photos fit whatever that week's challenge was too...) |
11/11/2002 01:31:00 PM |
Very interesting. Would be great for next weeks "technology" category. |
11/11/2002 01:25:00 PM |
I'm glad you got to see Endeavor... everyone should get to see a shuttle or a launch... but this is hardly a macro image, I'm afraid. |
11/11/2002 10:06:00 AM |
Technically meets the challenge. There is some grainularity in the sky. Colors are a little dull. |
11/11/2002 09:29:00 AM |
Nice shot, but neither a close up nor a macro |

Nice view, but it's not a macro, so doesn't really fit the challenge. |

How is this a macro/closeup? It looks pretty far away... Plus the haze doesn't help, sorry... |
