I've been a Dave Brubeck fan for a long time and he'll be playing here at the Eastman Theater in Rochester, NY. George Eastman was the founder of the Eastman Kodak company and brought photography to the masses.
I had envisioned this shot for the past month. Hopefully, a few will appreciate what's going on here compositionaly and not just think it's a disorganized mess. I was intentional about how I framed this. The convergence of the lines on the left, the overhead lights, the mostly black triangle/trapazoid on the right and the blurred walker on the sidewalk lead the eye into the right third of the photo. The overhead light dots and the bright large street light on the right hand side, balance against the brightness of the poster of Mr. Brubeck on the left.
Also the lines of the building are architecturally significant as they represent the lines and spaces on a piece of staff paper (around the doors) or perhaps the strings of violins, violas, cellos, basses and guitars. This is a beautiful building (especially inside) that Mr. Eastman gave us.
Processing was very straight forward. Converted to B&W with green filter and then some tweaks, a small perspective crop on the left to line up billboard, used curves to increase contrast, cloned out some minor reflections in the door and the second billboard, also cloned out wheelchair signs on either side of the door, selected right hand trapazoid and gave it a separte curves adj. to increase blacks, a pass through NI, then Adamus sharpening and SFW. |
