Hi Susan and * Greetings from the Critique Club *
The random generator has a sense of humor - the last image I just critiqued was a trio of trilliums.
Don't feel bad about not scoring high in the "three's" challenge - it was one with a vast array of strong competition.
Now - about "Late May Trillium."
Meeting the challenge No question about this!
Technical stuff Exposure is perfect. You've kept accurate, yet saturated, colors in nice soft, flat lighting.
Focus: Great - eliminating all distracting elements and concentrating on your subject.
Composition: A classic, formal composition that works well. Some would argue that you should not cut off the tips of the flowers, but I do NOT agree with that thought for this image. It works very well.
How can it be improved I would guess that the main reason your score wasn't better is threefold; a) The great number of superb images in this challenge, b) There is a huge number of flower images - and every little flaw [in the subject] is recognized. The fact that the Trillium is starting to fade away probably made some voters deduct points. I guess the way to score high is to use "more perfect" specimens. c) The flat lighting does not give it that final push - the "wow factor." It may be a good idea to carry onlong gold/silver/white reflectors to pump some nice light on the flowers. It just needs something to pull it up above thge "average."
I see this is just your third challenge, but keep submitting! You have a good eye.

Since the name of the flower means "three," I hope you have zero "doesn't meet the challenge" comments! |

This is an average close up of a flower that might be a touch sharp. To score well, flower shots have to be absolutely perfect, as we see so many of them. |

Good subject and composition. It's a shame the light wasn't a little more dramatic. With a few water drops and a warm, late afternoon sun, this could snag a ribbon. |

I like how they get pinker as the fade away. Nice shot. |
