I took this photo in early May from my 2nd story bathroom window which faces the backyard. The tree is only about 20 feet from my convenient blind, so it has provided me with thousands of wonderful opportunities to photograph the squirrels and birds that frequent this old Bur Oak. Actually, this photo captures only 5 of the 7 squirrels that call this hole home. “Mama” (bottom of pile), has been an excellent mother, having raised 4 young in 2008, only to surpass that this year with a brood of 6 that were born sometime in January.

This is my second challenge entry and I really messed it up. I waited to the last minute to process and submit the photo and didn’t realize until it was too late, that my computer monitor was badly miscalibrated. It came out way too blue and my Photoshop post-processing wasn’t that terrific either.

Thank you so much for the helpful comments!

Is it just me or does the one at the top left look a bit like a hippo?

What a great shot! I might almost forgive this bunch for their kin constantly raiding my birdfeeders ;-) They're looking a little blue, which bled into the tree on the left side of the hole.

very cute. Nice textures in the shot. Great eye contact. If you look closely you will see a blue tinge/hue on their foreheads. I would recommend that you remove the blue hue and you would get more accurate colors. 7
