Yes it's a real mouse, yes it survived, yes it's a wild pest mouse.

There is a minor mouse infestation where I live. I have a cat. My cat is an indoor cat. Yet she still hunts mice occaisonally, she's a spoiled pet but she still has the 'job' of keeping the place rodent free.

However because she gets at them rarely enough (funnily they've mostly stopped coming into the apartment once I got the cat) she really treasures each one and carries it around and spits it out to then hunt it all over again, rinse and repeat.

This particular mouse was a survivor so I ended up giving up because the chasing and catching and letting go and catching again didn't appear to be about to stop anytime soon so I managed to catch it myself and I released it into the garden. If I were being sensible I'd have killed it myself but it had been putting up such a valiant fight and it wasn't actually injured, apart from being quite soggy with cat saliva so it got to hop away happily into the night and vanish into some bushes.

I was whined at a lot once I got back, no fair taking away the bested self moving cat toy ever.

Taken with the on camera flash, no time to set up proper light and this was taken late at night.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

First and foremost, I LOVE the story! I had the same issue with lizards in Florida. Other than a dropped tail, the lizard would be fine, and I'd have to rescue it and send it back outside.

The photograph - the mouse looks somewhat resigned to being saliva'd and carried about. Surprisingly doesn't look too terribly worried. Cat looks quite pleased with herself! Quality is somewhat snapshot-ish, but that's due to the flash and the moving cat, and I'm sure you already know that. Composition is tight - good job minimizing other stuff and keeping the attention on your subjects - but perhaps a little too tight and thay may be because of the aforementioned clutter reduction. But above all else, a delightfully fun story to go with the photograph!

I've just seen the movie Up last night, and when you talk about soggy, it brings back verry cool 3D images from the movie.
Cool picture and it does fit the challenge.

OK, have to use the word "fetching" again. It is a fetching picture, and I love the story. Had a cat once whom late at night I heard purring loudly in my closet; he had brought in his kill - a bird - and just had to sound off his pleasure.

I can never remember which is which. I also confuse Starsky and Hutch.

Poor Jerry. Maybe a little lower angle showing the Jerry more would be better, to critic something :S But on the other hand, cats do not wait and pose. Good capture.

True to the challenge for sure. Getting the cat to co-operate was a challenge too! Nice capture.

gross but cool. Would have liked it from a little lower angle (though photographing my cat is impossible--so it's impressive that you got this)
