Little old cemetery in Poetry, TX, about 5 miles from my house. This is what's written on the historical marker at the gate:

Named for a nearby ravine, this burial ground originally served the community of Turner's Point, located on the Stage Road between Shreveport, LA and Dallas, TX. The settlement was established by Elisha Turner in 1845. In the 1870's the town was moved to a new location 1.5 miles southeast and renamed Poetry. The earliest marked grave at this site is that of Samuel Key, 1840-1871. Now closed for burials, the cemetery has 279 marked graves, bearing names of the English, Scottish, Irish, and Welsh settlers of the area.

Thanks for the history of this place! I can imagine how spooky that tree would look on a moonlit night!

i really like this photograph and the setting the cemetery is in ..
i live in a rural area and my mum is buried about a 10 minute drive from where i live ..
its a very small cemetery and in a back street so its very quiet as well .. anyway .. this has a similar feel altho quite a different history .. :)

Your town is actually called Poetry?, how lovely.
The concept that you would actually move a town 1.5 miles is amazing eh.
This is a lovely capture with great colours and contrast
