Yes, the vignette's a little one-sided.
Rotated 90º ccw, boom!, the balance is back!

I like it the way it is. The cloud, especially, is so wonderful-crazy vs. the austere minimalism of the partial arch, it makes me restless looking at it.
That's worth more to me than a couple of dark corners.

Greetings from the Critique Club :)

It's going to be tough for me to add anymore than I did on my initial comment for this shot really, but I will try:

I really like this shot, I like the position of the arch and the way the sky is almost separated by it, the dark forboding left side is mirrored by the shadow of the arch which works so well.

I think the reasoning I made about it not screaming the challenge subject still stands regarding the received score and I am pretty sure you are aware of that, you've been here long enough to know the situation with the voters :)

All in all a very brave entry, a very valid entry even though it didn't overly connect with the voters, I think it's the sort of image that will connect really well with a select crowd and that sometimes is more rewarding than shooting something purely to score well over taking and entering a shot that you both like and enjoy at the moment of capture.

Good luck in future challenges!

Mark

Nice. I like the simplicity of this, although the dark corners on the left are off putting.

I have always enjoyed shooting this arch from different angles... this one is really cool with the clouds on one side... Raj

lovely shot of the arch - the B&W works well

Interesting and fairly unique but I fear you might suffer as the subject is not really in your face

The Arch is always fun to shoot, but difficult to make creative, since it's been done so many times before (me included). I love the simplicity along with the great cloud. Nice B&W conversion as well...

Tough to get an interesting picture of the arch. I like this one. You know what it is even without seeing the whole thing. Great placement in the frame.

I love your image and I respect your bravery for risking this kind of shot on here.
It works really well for me, the way the structure of the building works to divide the two types of sky. 7 from me.
