 The orchid plant in this picture is the one I hung mini Easter Eggs on in the 'Puzzle' challenge some time ago.
The Buddha statue is from our garden (yard) and I've used it once before in the 'Asia' challenge around New Year. I scored around 5.7 & 6 for those two so I'm hoping to beat them both with this one. Fingers crossed - "Ommmmmmmmmmm"

It seems that "Zen" is one of those words that is hard to define. I must admit I thought of Zen Buddhism and went straight for three typical elements of a Buddhist Temple: the Buddha Image, orchid flowers and burning incense. Fitting them into a balanced image was harder than I imagined and my reservations are fairly echoed in the comments I received. However, I can take some comfort from the fact that my comment made during the challenge on the winning picture predicted 'Blue' for it. Congratulations once more to Irene for that one.
In the meantime I might have done better if I'd entered this picture from my portfolio:

It's okay with the Buddha, but IMO it would have been better without it. Orchids are so Zen by their very nature.....6

Very very well lit and composed. Only suggestion would be to limit it to two or even one subject. Just my opinion that too many subjects complicates things.

I like how the flowers come out almost as if they were the sound. I like the lighting, nice and soft. IMO the smoke detracts from an otherwise very nice shot.

lots going on.. I would have at least made the entire thing b&w or used one or two of the three elements to simplify it.

Love the orchids and smoke, I think the statue is a bit too much, it makes the photo too busy and crowded.

I'd like to see some separation between the ear and the blossom. That aside this works really well for the challenge.

Very traditional but I like it. I wish there were some negative space between the buddha and the orchids. Still a lovely image.
