 I took so many pictures of these birds this week. It was such a great escape. So "zen" :) It's that time of year when hundreds of them nest in the same tree and flit to and fro all day and evening. I went every day because it was so interesting watching them. I got several good ones, and some that I like more than this one, but out of all of them, I thought this one had the most peaceful, zen feel to it. Here's a couple of my outtakes.

Sandy, This took my breath away. Teheeeeeee, I bet the 102 degree heat that you had to endure to capture this cool and calming image took your breath away too!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Sandy, I think it's a testament to the quality of your entry that even though I'm not very interested in photos of birds in flight, I eventually bumped this up to a 9. Congrats on your honorable mention!

I dunno if this fits the classic Zen definition, but for me it's an image of great beauty, exciting in its exquisite detail. It fills me with joy, and makes me glad to have been able to share this wonderful glimpse. 10

Love the detail in the wings, I like the placement of the bird in the frame and I like that the bird is looking upwards. Very nice.

Stunningly perfect exposure! I love the light through the wings and the catchlight in the eye, and the subtle fade to dark in the sky. Beautifully done capture of the soaring grace of a bird's flight.
