 I was playing around with some syrup one night trying to get some ants to gather. For some reason I was not having any luck, so I called it a night and left everything out in my garage (it is detached from my house, so I didn't mind leaving it out). When I checked on it in the morning the ants were everywhere! They were having a feast! I took a bunch of photos, and then decided I wanted to play with some color. So I got some kolaide powder and mixed it with some syrup and set it out. But the ants didn't seem to like it very much compared to the regular syrup. So I left it alone again until later that night. When I came back later there were a few ants on the colored syrup, and one little poor guy that looks like he swam out to the center and drowned.

I unfortunetly caught the reflection of the umbrella in the syrup. I didn't notice it until I loaded the pictures onto my computer and at that point I had already cleaned up the mess. But other than that I personally liked the effect of the photo.

Had you not mentioned it, I'd not have noticed the umbrella's reflection. Still a cool shot. I liked it.

I'm putting my money on this one getting the blue ribbon. My favourite by far. I can look it for ages... the detail and the story is just enthralling... only think stopping me from giving it a 10 was the blurriness at the bottom right of the image. Well done.

I loved the bright colors and the ants around it -- but it has been done before (though not with one stuck in the middle -- but it's not quite original... great shot though!)

Love the red. Is that an umbrella reflection or ant reflection? Wish this was sharper. I like the concept. Poor little ant in the middle. Swim buddy swim!

Yuck! Interesting challenge idea and good work on the white bg. I think if I were an ant I'd be one of the smart ones lining up at the edge rather than trying to swim/walk over it.

Nice shot! Ants are a sort of cliche, but your approach really added value to the subject! I just dont like the reflections (is this a umbrella?)
The ants at the bottom are a little bit soft. i just dont know if this is OOF or a lens issue...

I can't quite put my finger on why, but I just love this. The umbrella refection stands out a little bit but overall it doesn't matter
