One of my outtakes from the Architecture V challenge. This is a view of Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I actually thought this was a stronger image than the one I eventually submitted to the Architecture challenge, but thought that it wasn't sufficiently architectural.
As the exposure was somewhat challenging, combining the natural illumination from the night sky, the street lamps, and the internal illumination of the spires, I took a total of five bracketed shots. The image as submitted combines two of the shots---one exposure to prevent the light from the illuminated spires from being completely blown out, and a second that properly exposed for the remainder of the scene.
I must confess to some doubts as to how it will fare in competition. Unfortunately, the image does not immediately pop as a 120px tall thumbnail. I also had to apply more compression than I would have liked to get the image size under 200 KB (too much fine detail in the capture), so I worry about being penalized for JPG artifacts in the image.
But as always, I will submit it in the (unfortunately limited) hopes of obtaining useful critiques and commentary. I predict a final score of 5.37 +/- 0.30, 19 times out of 20.
