Challenge: Portraits Without Children (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Canon EOS-40D
Lens: Canon EF 24-105mm f/4.0L IS
Location: Old, wooden barn in the county, near Windsor, ON.
Date: Jul 16, 2009
Aperture: f8
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/60
Galleries: Emotive, Portraiture
Date Uploaded: Jul 18, 2009

The photo was taken in an old, wooden barn just before the sun was falling behind the horizon. The warm light was hitting directly onto the subject and the idea with the “spear” came as a result of the lighting itself. The model was great and although she was fully involved emotionally I didn’t quite make her (or asked her) to cry but she literally burst in tears after having to stare at the sun.

Greetings from the critique club!

Striking image but I am not sure about the make up and the knife as mentioned in previous comments. You have a beautiful model with beautiful natural light. Had the light been harsher and the makeup applied to look edgier perhaps the eye lashes and the knife would have worked.

Visualizing this without the eyelashes and knife I see a great emotive portrait here.

This an emotional shot. I think that it would have maybe even been better without the knife and a closer crop to show more of the face. The light is just right!

The eyelashes are a distraction to me, and take away from the overall image.

Love everything about this except the cut off fingers coming back into the frame.
