 Basic two light set up for "short lighting". Main light was in an umbrella approx 45 degrees to camera right. Fill was almost beside camera left.

Very classic, very good! But I hate the "N/A" in the photographer's comments. I love coming back to find shots I've enjoyed in the challenge to see the story behind them, or at least the setup! Edit - thanks for adding the notes - much appreciated!

At first, this doesn't seem like something that would do well at DPC because it is such a straightforward shot. But the gaze, the lighting, and the clarity of the subject makes this an interesting study in photography.

This gets an 8 from me. Your lighting, composition, and background are all simple, but you've managed to show this man for who he is, and that is what a portrait is!
