Challenge: Team Sports Without Players (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Nikon D70
Location: Oakwood Park - Syracuse, IN
Date: Jun 1, 2004
Aperture: f/4.5
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/60
Galleries: Sports, Black and White
Date Uploaded: Jun 1, 2004

I know that basketball is going to be a very popular subject in this challenge, but I'm hoping this will be unique enough to stand out. I tried a couple different ideas, but this one was my favorite.

Used the 18-70mm kit lens while laying down on the ground to get the point of view.

Cropped, auto-levels, contrast, saturation, converted to quadtone, resized, USM.

The halo around the ball is evident. It is a nice photo just clean up the post-processing though.

Wow... I like the color tones. Ball is in superb focus. It looks like you edited the shot around the ball itself, though - a slight change in sharpness or brightness can be seen around it. Very nice picture, though!

Nice and simple idea. The sepia tone fits with this image. I like the composition and depth of the scene. Great job...

Good luck...

I like everything about this except the distracting lights.reflections in the trees behind the net. Color choice and contrast are excellent, composition and DOF choices are good (a slight increase on DOF so that the net was just alittle more in focus might work as well, not sure.) Your choice of a ball that is somewhat experienced is also perfect for the shot.

I like that you put something inthe forefront to make this scene have some drama. a good shot overall. 8

I like the angle and placement of the ball. I also like the gritty feel of the shot. It also looks like (at least on this monitor) a very subtle duotone coloring. Nice DoF too.

beautiful shot, should do quite well. I wish the backboard weren't overexposed.
