Great job capturing these two little ones. They are adorable.
(Much more photogenic than professional squirrels and cuter, too.)

Hello, All
Thank you for your comments. As this is my first entry, I did not expect it to do well.
The three major concerns addressed through the comments were;

1. Foreground too hot> Lush as it might seem, Reno is still a desert
and dry desert soil can sometimes be highly reflective. That's nature.
No spot editing. Those are the rules. You never know, could be the hot foreground helped cut the flash enough to keep the subjects from getting blown away. However,
I could have cropped it right down to the hole but then weâd be looking at res issues and the border of what constitutes âspot editing.â (as in, if asked to provide the original)

2. Focus on the "kids" too soft> Inside the hole it's dark. The focus was a guess, O.K.? A quarter inch either way or half a stop?

3. Getting the shot> Sometimes I think I inherited some of my Uncle's gift for working with animals. But then, my own dogs prove me wrong.
These squirrels were nice enough to give up a little of their playtime for me. Not knowing when they'd break it off, I tried to get as many shots as I could. Only 2 said, âwaiting."
This was the cutest one. Someday, I might get to post the rest.
In the meantime, I'll keep trying.
Thanks again,
MD
P.S. Iâm sure some of this could have been avoided if I had hired professional squirrels.

The animals are not in focus, you focused on the surrounding earth.

nice capture that fits the challenge well but needs more depth of field

cute photo - I think could have been improved with a slightly greater depth of field, so that the animals (squirrels?) were more in focus, but with photographs of opportunity like this one, I know how hard it is! Interesting textures on the roof of the tunnel/burrow.

Very cute shot. How did you get them to stay long enough to photograph?

That's exactly what they are saying! Good couple - nice exposure on the critters - but the foreground at bottom is a bit hot. Too bad you didn't get the catchlight in the eye on bith animals.
