The pickens at the florists today were slim. Couldn't afford anything anyway and even Michael said "It's Summer...weed season!" So I went with some dried up old flowers and found this sort of Siamese Twin strawflower. The interest was the green stem and the mythological story of Icarus came to mind with the brighness of the yellows and oranges sort of resembling a sun that had split in two and his riding it through the heavens. Well....I get it. Hope you do, too.

Shot with camera on tripod user the timer remote. Lit with two clamp lamps on either side of the subject and used some white paper to reflect over top.

Post:
Camera raw adjustments in PSElements 6.0.
5-7 crops.
Layer adjustments for levels, brightness/contrast and hue/saturation.
Adjust sharpness.
Spot edit sensor dust and some minor distractions on the petals.
Selected the upper and middle black background and did another layer of levels resetting the black point in to get rid of some haze (probably caused by the aforementined white paper reflector).
Resize.
USM.

Absolutely correct. Better read my Bullfinch's again.

I give you a 9 for this, with at least 3 points for that fantastic title.

could you have gotten closer to the petals of the flower? really really zoomed in on that only...IMO that would have really made this pop for me, you have excellent focus and a great subject with beautiful color, you are just to far away from the subject...

Beautyful picture, BUT, an abstract image is not representing or imitating external reality or the objects of nature
