Greetings from the Critique Club
The message
The natural contrast of pandas makes them great photo subjects, and this one has a nice pose. There is deep depth of field so it technically meets the challenge, but I think this picture would have been more effective with a shallow DOF, keeping the panda in focus but with the background and foreground blurred.
Creative choices
The composition is unbalanced; cropping off the left third of the photo would make it much stronger. Shadows are a bit deep; Curves could help lighten them and reduce the strong contrast. Just enough green is included to add an interesting splash of color.
Technical aspects
Focus is good, although perhaps a bit soft; a little sharpening would enhance the many textures in the photo. The photo is slightly overexposed, burning out the lightest parts. Compression artifacts are mildly distracting and could have been prevented by using a higher quality compression. |

Not sure of the depth component here. |

Lovely picture but doesn't really show deep DOF as the background is totally shadowed. |

Tough shot to get with your available lighting. Some filler flash might have helped with some of the dark spots. |

A nice animal. Too bad the lighting is so contrasty. NOt really showing much DoF. |

A difficult shot with all the lights and shadows. Good job. |

Interesting shot..
I think you could have moved the subject out of the center of the frame in order to make this a little more dynamic. Movement to the left would probably have been best so the panda was looking into the frame.
I also don't don't think you leveraged Deep DOF as part of the composition. The foliage in front is in focus and it does help to frame the panda, but it's not a key element of the composition. |
