Greetings from the Critique Club...
A score of 5.4 here is not terrible I suppose. You showed a decent image of some of the stereotypical items associated with going back to school. The lighting and composition on this image doesn't really do much for me. It's rather dull and uninteresting. Since I don't have any information regarding your lighting technique, I can't really offer you any suggestions on correcting that or making it more appealing. I would have tried something a little softer or a larger light source to help with the reflection possibly. I might have also tried a more dramatic lighting scheme along with a darker background to make the apple color pop a little more.
In the long run, this photo might have some significance in the world of stock images, but it doesn't really speak to me at all artistically, and it doesn't seem to provide any visual impact beyond what I would consider to be average.
What this photo does remind me of is myself when I was learning how to control things with my camera. This is something I would have done myself to teach myself a technique, whether it be lighting or something else. If this is the case with your image, I hope you were successful on that front :)

| this image seems a little flat and it would have been nice if the pencil tip was included in the focal range. Also, to be really picky, it could have been sharpened to a nicer point. |
