Here's a good example of Lensbaby as a means to an end versus an end in itself. Meaning... You used the Lensbaby to keep the focus dead on the thing's face. A wide open aperture for narrow DOF would have given you a similar effect, I suppose, but some of the ears and neck would also have been in sharper focus and the impact not so strong. It's really about the beast's ugly face, and the LB keeps the viewer's eye anchored there.
