This may be decent DOF for a macro shot, but it isn't really DEEP DOF imo. |

Use of shallow depth of field works well for the image - keeping the grasshopper and first thistle sharp, making a moderate blur for the two further thistles, and really obscuring the background. It gives a sense of three dimensionality and simplifies the composition so we pay attention to the main subject. But I would expect low votes in a challenge asking for deep depth of field. |

Deep DOF means most of the image is in focus, this is shallow DOF so doesn't fit the theme. |
