In relation to the last photo, this is somewhere around 500 feet higher in elevation and off over to the right (north). I'm standing on a saddle that separates my side from the Crater Lakes side, which you can see below. The scale is sorta lost here, but the gorund is around 600 feet lower than I am, and is surprisingly steep. I will be descending this the day after this photo was taken, but today I'm just cruising around. Up over to my right is an unnamed mountain that I ended up climbing. To the right of Crater lake in the foreground, you can see where I'll end up camping, out where the vegetation is rather sparse and starts to rise a bit before dropping off.

gorgeous view - i almost wonder if the sky is 'too blue' but having been to Colorado many times, that level of saturation does almost 'feel right'.
