First attempt at low key. I found it very difficult and I've likely not gotten the hang of it. I wish that I could achieve the results of some of the examples of prior entries. Some of them are fabulous. I admire that ability. However, I consider this a more artsy type of shot than technical brilliance type of thing. I may never be able to achieve some of the studio type/style shots that a number have mastered in here. I do like this shot though and it has meaning to me on a number of different fronts.

I liked the fact that the young woman I photographed had light blond hair with extremely light (almost white) platinum blond highlights in her hair. The door in front of her was cracked open with a bright light coming from behind it into a totally darkened room(really technical lighting, huh? LOL). I also fired a top of camera mounted flash unit pointed to the side dulled with some tissue paper and bounced off a wall. The lighting caught the highlights in her hair and the metal cross on the rosary. The diagonal of her hair and tilted head made for what I think is a nice composition. What voters will think??? Well, that's always the conundrum, isn't it? :)

Score bet? Likely a 5 or below.

Whether this constitutes a true "Low Key"???? No idea. I kept my histogram (according to Bear Music's suggestion on the discussion) to the left to avoid quite as many midtones. Don't know if I have achieved it or not but, I tried. :)

Editing: RAW conversion with some level adjusting. Photoshop, Levels, Curves, Brighten & Contrast, USM, Noise Removal, Re-size, USM slight adjustment, crop and save.

Post Challenge:

Not as bad a score as I thought. I'm happy with it. But, not one comment? I think this is the first challenge I've not gotten a single comment. :)

I like this, Jamie..the highlights in her hair and the cross are exceptional. Was this from the wedding on the bluffs?
