Challenge: Choices (Basic Editing I)

A choice we all have to make, several times per day. I tried to make it a bit more interesting with some unusual lighting.
This was lit using the "painting with light" technique. The shot was set up, manually prefocused and manual exposure set to f/8, 10 seconds, ISO 64. The lights were then turned off, making the room completely dark. Hit the shutter button, then "painted" the scene using a mini Mag light. Took about 6 different shots, and this one turned out the best. I'm not 100% happy with the light--the utensils are a bit too dark, in my opinion--but overall I'm pleased with the outcome.
Photoshop used for a slight bump in exposure from the original RAW file, cropping, border, resize, and unsharp mask. |

| A nice photo but I find it just a bit disconcerting to have the knife on the left side. I know this seems like a nit pick but for me it distracts my attention for the main subject. |

| I like the lighting efects, yet the picture seems dull. Maybe since the silverware is verticle the food on the plate should be rounder or oval. A fanned strawberry, a bunch of grapes, even slices of carrot contrasted with a cupcake maybe. I don't pretend to be an expert, thats just my two cents. |
