I first collected some free leaves. Leaf was cut out using a razor blade. Creating a stencil of Canada. Yeah, had to be very careful! I used a piece of glass, to lay leaf on. Glass was placed, to hang off the edge of a couch. With a massive encyclopedia, on one third of it. Giving the necessary support. Ground was covered with black cloth. Camera was on a tripod, with remote release. Positioned up high, straight on.
Step # 1 In dark, placed hand in position. Started exposure and turned on an Ikea Glow Orb? ( not sure of the name). Streaked it below hand, creating the green. Turned off Glow Orb. Removed hand.
Step #2 Grabbed small L.E.D. stick light. Which was taped up earlier, to only show two inches of blueish colour. Light was covered with hand and brought under leaf. Uncovering the light, I moved the light back and forth. Lighting up the CANADA cut-out. Recovering light with hand, Light was removed from scene.
Step #3 Using a small AA flashlight, I under lit the leaf from the side. The flashlight has a snoop attached. Yes, it's amazing what you can do with cardboard and tape! This took the longest of the exposure. Image was cropped, rotated and resized for web in iphoto. |
