 The Image: We live in the southern hemisphere and everything is flourishing and green at the moment. I took some leaves and tried to dry them but they stayed green, so I froze them in a tray of ice. I backlit the ice block and used a macro.

The Edit: changed the hue to get the right tones, some sharpening, levels, curves, contrast adjustment. The ice is in black and white with a mask.

Prediction: No high hopes...maybe a 5.5?

Good for you and your inventiveness. I just assumed I had to sit this one out, but you have delivered a brilliant creation. Well done.

I really enjoy the simplicity, with the figure and ground regularly reversing. Gives a dyamic sensation absent from most of the other entries. This serves both as an interesting semi-abstract image of fingers of ice converging on a glowing center and a detailed image of a warm colored leaf embedded in crystalized light. I had this at the top of the challenge. Appreciate hearing how much extra work went into the making.

Wow! the detail in the leaf veins and the ice crystals is wonderful. And I love the composition and colour contrasts - warm and cold.

very cool abstract - the textures of the leaf almost mirrors that of the ice

i just wonder if the border actually breaks the theme and creates an unwanted texture
