I didn't really enter this picture to be competitive, because frankly, it's not a great picture. It's a little out of focus, the lighting could be better, and composition could be more creative. It was the first snow of the season, and it was cold. The hubby and child were complaining, and it was hard to snap a good one. So this is here just for the thought. :) It's hard to think of one particular thing that defines the spirit of the country. But in my corner of it, this says it all. Brotherhood. In August of 07, our small community had to deal with a tragedy. Six of our miners became trapped in a cave in. Without thinking of the risks to themselves, miners from all over the surrounding towns were lined up to go into the mine and rescue their brothers. Some were family, some were friends, but most were strangers. And two weeks later, another cave in claimed the lives of three of the rescuers. These men had never met the trapped miners, but were willing to give their all to bring them out. So for this small mining community, this memorial stands for our greatest spirit, Brotherhood.
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13 |

The snow and bare trees really adds to the emotion of this capture. |

Which country is coal country? I could Google to find the country that produces the most coal but I can't be bothered. Sorry, DNMC IMO.

Thanks for the PM. I wasn't trying to be snooty but I have been taught the importance of meeting the challenge description lately. With this new found knowledge I felt that this shot did not. Sorry if I offended.
Welcome to DPC BTW! |
