Macro of a specialty light bulb. Adjusted lighting and contrast, reduced noise, sharpened, added border. Submitted. Unsubmitted. Submitted. Unsubmitted...

If the score keeps put, this will be my new PB!!!

[takes a handful of Valium]

So far, I've accomplished what I set out to do with this shot - get viewers to wonder what it is. It looks a lot more exotic than it is: a specialty bulb covered with silicone protrusions.

Oh, and I know that the droplets wreck the illusion by adding size context, but I thought they also improved the interest of the shot.

Fantastic! A new PB. Thank you all so much for your great comments.

Just checking through your photos, Johanna. I really like your work, you obviously put a lot of thought into the composition. This one sort of just jumped into my heart. Beautiful image.

Huh? That's one ginormously sized cell :P

Beautiful composition and colors. I assume this is one of those decorative balls with little spikes coming off of it (I see them used for ear rings all the time).

That looks cool. It's so not at the cellular level (The water droplets are to small!) But a lovely photo - What is it????

Brilliant idea! Maybe if the front one was not there it would be perfect.

fantastic colors, love the lighting and extensions of the "cell", good composition. only distraction is the closest "hair" as it distracts from the main focused hair. more science fiction than science though, still 9
