Those letters are so large and contrasty that it almost seems like text worked in via photoshop or something. :-) I know it's not...just an observation. The LB is perfect for making this shot work in the environment it's taken. Without the blur the background would become an issue. Maybe with something extremely shallow you could get close to this, but I still think the LB was absolutely the right tool available here.

Good eye to see this and capture it so well.
