I took this shot the day before The Spirit of a Country challenge. I thought that this would have done well there.
This is a great place for kiteboarding in Miami and it attracts many kiteboarders, from beginners to pros. This is Garry Menk, part owner of a distributor of kiteboards. He is always looking for shots that show off their products. The board that he is riding, a Jimmy Lewis Supermodel, is a top of the line kiteboard.
The difficulty here was to get the flag, the rider, and the kite in the shot, get Garry to grab the board in the right place while looking directly at the camera, and keep everything in focus. Keeping my equipment dry was another challenge.
I submitted this image to Kiteworld, a major kiteboarding magazine where I've had numerous images published. They have since requested the full resolution version which is a good indication that this will also get published. This time, however, I'm hoping for the cover which, so far, has eluded me. |

| Didn't get to comment but when saw this in voting my jaw hit the floor. This is an amazing shot - all the more that you both had the patience to try again and again to nail it. And bummer, that it was shot the day before The Spirit of a Country challenge I feel that this would have definitely been in the top 10! But gratz on being in the top 20% in a Free Study Challenge - that is great finish in my book:-) Hope things go well and you make the cover - again it is an amazing action shot and would certainly make any observer do a double take and stare at the photo if on the cover of a magazine. |

| Feels like a "Spirit of a Country" out take. Interesting juxtaposition of sport and patriotism. I like your precise control over focus ... not so easy. |

| this is a totally amazing picture...I would like to see the colors pop a bit more (only a little bit...the red seems a little dull to me) |
