It's been over a year and hadn't relaized that I recieved all these positive comments for this submission. I haven't been online since late 2009. If you happen to return to this challenge and come across my image--THANK YOU for your comments and sorry for such a delay to responding. This was taken in an area of Seoul, S. Korea called Insadong or Bukcheong(?); a wll-preserved historic village modified into prominent homes and definitely a tourist attraction.

I love how your subjects are like holes where subjects should be. I particularly like the third man on the right, who has all but succumbed to the void. I give you the Posthumous Yellow Ribbon.

This is amazing. Fleeting improvised men. Stunning. In my top ten of the challenge. 9.

True, just another day, but where? I like that you didn't tell us. Feels like one of those nostalgic newspaper photos taken 75 years ago. The strength of this is the composition, the lighting, and the interesting sky/cityscape shapes. There will be some who don't like the soft focus, but it seems to works well here.

This has the soft, low res look of a photo shot many years ago. That look may not be intentional however. I see heavy compression artifacts around the roofline and in other places through the image. The 52k file size tells me this is indeed heavily compressed. That compression is what is killing all the detail. Always use the least amount of compression you can, but still come in under the challenge limit.

Looks like there is a lot of character in this place; would like to see more detail on the architecture.

IMO I would have like this with a bit more gaussian blur added...it is on that cusp of...not quite in focus not quite out....so to me it need a kick in the blur direction

OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy). I'll be picking one of these images for the Mu (most underrated) award:

Positives:So many interesting elements in this image - the deep perspective offered by the path leading all the way to the cityscape. The nonchalance of the figures in almost pure silhouette, the ashen tones and the blurry, old feel.

Critical Stuff: It might be my monitor but I'm seeing a lot of blocky artefacts in the sky.

Overall: A really compelling image, one that makes you want to linger to look - I also think the aspect ratio is brave and inspired. Excellent stuff.
