I get very well what you're trying to convey here and I believe it fits the challenge very well. Too bad it's such a flat image, and too bad about the composition. Maybe dropping a copy of the image in Multiply mode over the original would give it more depth. Maybe moving the subject just a little to the right would add a bit to the composition.

But then, it's only an opinion.

I like the concept, and overall it is a nice photo. If you do another one like this in the future, I'd recommend playing with the lighting - it seems a little dull.

nice shot it really conveys that all to said fact about many of todays marriages. I feel that the shot is slightly under exposed as the blade looks more grey then metallic. Also be carful of finger prints when you are taking macro shots.
