This is my very first entry as a newbie to photography. Taken when I was practicing slow shutter speeds with my new Sunpac Tripod. I was shooting the falls when this kid just jumped into the scene. I am using Photoshop for editing my images. I used the rope thingy to perform the selection process. I also tried to use the painting tool to remove some of the blue outline but it was very tricky. I used this pointy finger thing which did a good job. Critques, I am still trying to learn the photography terminologies here... and to the el cheapos out there.. dont go cheap on your tri pods, the tripod is our friend. I got a Sunpack 5800 tripod at a reasonable $29. I had nightmares with my cheap $12 tripod.

Girl seems just a bit too soft focus.

Wow nice photo. Girl looks a little out of focus though.

I would like to see her more in focus AND in color. Other wise the focal point is out of focus. Cute little model =).

Very cute shot. It's so hard to keep a child still when you want to leave the shutter open for awhile. Sometimes I'll ask my 5-year-old to lean on something, such as that rock, which will keep her from moving around too much. You'd think they could sit still for just 1/10th of a second! :-)

Nice setting, lovely model. It may be a bit better if the model looked more involved - either by doing something or by looking at the camera.

Nice picture for this challenge. I would like it more if the pretty face was in focus.

Excellent choice of picture to use in this challenge. Wonderful job of desaturating the entire background and excellent workmanship with the subject. The suject seems a little soft. That could be a real plus when matted and framed. Rated 9.

The blue dress stands out nicely. The soft focus would have worked better if the litle were more in focus and the background were less.

The waterfall looks great in B&W, and the girl would have been lost without the color. Nice use of selective desaturation to make her stand out.

Careful don't go to near the water. :)

Cute. I probably would have desaturated the blue a touch just so it didn't contrast SO much, but that's more of a personal preferance I think. The focus seems a little soft, but it's a nice photo.

nice shot ,but feel it is a bit blurry

she looks a little out of focus - an effect of the long shutter speed I expect, could you have used a flash to freeze her? (I'm not sure?)

I'd like to see her a little more focused. Beautiful shot otherwise

Beautiful composition, but it appears there is either motion blur of a focus problem in the subject.
06/21/2004 07:43:05 AM
was the girl really there?
06/21/2004 03:44:57 AM
Pity - she does not appear to be in focus - or she moved, or both.

Nicely done, recommend a smaller aperture and faster shutter speed however, seeing as the little girl is slightly out of focus, probably due to movement, (little kids are notorius for that) :D Good idea, and nicely implemented though, just a little on the technical side would've made the difference for this shot.
