This is Katie, my neice, who graciously posed for quite a few pictures for me to practice.

I am practicing with my black and white conversion to get that dynamic black range that I see on so many beautiful portraits here (and that I don't have a clue how to achieve yet).

Let me know what you all think!
Thanks.

This is a good image. I think that this image would pop even more if the background was white. The composition is great and the tattoo does standout.
cheers,
JKH

i really like the choice of composition to include the tattoo and the face to the left - but I think her face is a bit cut off too much. It might be worth trying a slightly different lighting set up in the background so that her skin doesn't match the background so much.

i would like to see how it works with a touch of grain to it, when i saw the thumb i thought it was one of those pierced lacings that make cringe

tattooed! very fine with a slight emotive flare. try to achieve detail in black which IMHO is difficult. the white dress is a bit distracting. the slight movement creates a livable persona. overall very appealing photograph.

I love this portrait. The tattoos give such a dramatic affect to that beautiful feminine face. I love her pose, and I think you did good with the black and white conversion. One trick I've been playing with on the bw conversions is to go into the channel mixer, and after clicking on the "Monochrome" option at the bottom, sliding one of the channels (each picture works best with a different color being adjusted), for me, its usually the red channel, and I just up it a bit over the default, and it makes the whites pop and the darks a little more contrasty. But I think this is really pretty just like it is.

Nice job here, well done pose, the letters on her back certainly add lots of interest. [BTW, what do they say?] Blacks do indeed look good. Suggestion for improvement (minor): perhaps a whiter background would make her stand out better and result in a more dramatic image.
