Challenge: The Moon (Advanced Editing VII*)
Camera: Nikon D2X
Lens: Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DL Macro for Nikon
Location: Home
Date: Jan 3, 2010
Aperture: F25
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/200

Since I don't have the equipment to shoot a descent photograph of the moon (a simple clear "something" against a dark background is not the way I wanted to present it), and by missing the presence of a clear moon at the right moment (a moment a: I was not asleep and b: without snow at night), I created my own artificial moon:
a transparent marble frozen in a layer of water, leaving a part of the marble above the surface. When the ice was halfway of being formed, I took a syringe and injected drops of blue ink at several places. The ink spread itself were the ice was not yet completely formed.

In no way this can approach the sensation of a photograph of our real moon, but I do hope that some creativity will be accepted in this challenge as well.
However, I think some (or a lot) of DNMC will come my way.

Modifications:
- levels
- brightness & contrast
- crop
- sharpened after resizing

Edit after challenge: feels good to see all those positive comments of people who could appreciate my creativity. Thank you :)

The voting round was rather controversial. On one hand I had those positive comments, on the other hand my score started at 5.4xxx and went downwards from there, kept going down,...and down...till a depth point of 4,8xxx. Only during the last voting day/hours it went back up.

I really liked this shot. Its too bad many voters wanted something more literal to the challenge title/theme.

This is very creative, and also artistic. I like it.
You can shoot the moon with a tripod, that 300mm and D2x very nicely. Try iso 200, 1/350, f8.
Here's an in camera double exposure with a 70-300 D ED Nikkor.

This looks like a photo of a piece of art, so I don't see what the photographer added. But maybe I am wrong on that, will be interested in reading the photog's comments. 15 January - Well voting closed, and now I know from the photog's notes that this is a very creative image, created from a 'blank slate.' Excellent work.

Love the "out of the box" interpretation of this. Beautiful colors and metallic tones. Not voting.

10 for not pointing your camera at the moon and pressing the shutter release.

The subject is beautiful. It has great color and texture but somehow the composition doesn't do it justice...

Going for that "voters will get tired of seeing the same moon shots and will reward a change of pace" vote? Ok, ya got mine. :)
